New Rabbit 6000 Microcontroller has on-chip WiFi MAC

Rabbit, a Digi International company, today announced the Rabbit 6000 microcontroller with on-chip WiFi.

The Rabbit 6000 features on-chip 10/100 Base-T Ethernet and also 802.11a/b/g WiFi MAC. The WiFi MAC module supports WPA2 wireless security and is ready to connect to external RF circuitry.

The Rabbit 6000 is manufactured in 90nm process at Faraday/UMC .

Features of the new Rabbit 6000 microcontroller include:

• up to 200 MHz operation
• 24-bit external address bus, 16-bit external data bus
• 32K battery backable SRAM
• 1 MB internal DRAM
• 16-channel DMA
• Ten 8-bit Timers
• One 10-bit Timer with 2 match registers
• One 16-bit Timer with 8 match registers
• On-board 10/100 Ethernet
• On-board 802.11 a/b/g MAC
• 64 I/O and up to 6 serial ports (4 as SPI)
• USB 2.0 full speed (host)
• 8-channel 12-bit A/D converter samples up to 1Megasamples/s
• HDLC
• I2C
• Quadrature Decoder
• Integrated hardware and software environment
• Easily add an HMI as well as CANbus protocol support with the on-board FIMs
• 4 PWM channels, 4 PPM channels

In addition, two Flexible Interface Modules (FIMs) allow engineers to configure support for protocols such as CANbus, Secure Digital (SD) and Secure Digital Input Output (SDIO).

Rabbit's popular MiniCore are planned to support the new Rabbit 6000 microcontroller. Rabbit's MiniCore are a series of ultra-compact, low-profile, low-cost networking modules that have become very popular with developers.
