Intel is buying Infineon Wireless Solutions Business for $1.4 billion. Look, no wires!
Intel Corporation has greed to purchase Infineon's Wireless Solutions Business, nicknamed WLS, for $1.4 Billion in a deal expected to close in 1Q2011.
Business at WLS will continue as before, and will operate as a standalone business unit.
When looked at in the context of Intel's recent acquisition of software security firm McAfee, it appears that Intel is seeking to diversify their technology portfolio. In semiconductors it can be seen that Intel wants to own more of the chips in your PC and your smartphone.
