AUSTIN, Texas, April 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola's has announced two new 8-bit microcontrollers, the Flash-based 68HC908JL8 and 68HC908JK8 microcontrollers. The devices are pin-compatible with the existing HC08 JL and JK MCU families.
The 68HC908JL8 and 68HC908JK8's are targeting the following applications:
- Small industrial compressors
- instrument control panels
- HVAC blowers and fans
- automotive body electronics (inside the car cabin)
Features
The 68HC908JK8 and 68HC908JL8 include the high-performance 8-bit HC08 core, 8 Kbytes of flash memory, two 16-bit timers, 256 bytes of random access memory (RAM), 13-channel 8-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converter, SCI and operation of 3.3 and five volts. In addition, both advanced chips enable users to select an external crystal oscillator or an external resistor capacitor (RC) oscillator.
- In-circuit and in-application re-programming
- Up to 10,000 write/erase cycles
- Fast programming times (as fast as 32 microseconds/byte)
- Block protection and security features to help customers guard intellectual property contained in software code
"The 68HC908JL8 has an edge over MCUs from other suppliers for its functions and competitive price," said Vincent Ma, Research & Development Director of Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai, China. "In particular, we like its flash emulated EEPROM features to store and update essential data. The flexibility of the 68HC908JL8 worked well with our new model air conditioning design and manufacturing cycles, offering us the functionality we needed at the right price. In addition, Motorola's established microcontroller technology leadership and excellent sales and services support were critical factors in our deciding to work with them."
Price and Availability:
The 68HC908JK8 and 68HC908JL8 are both available now. Pricing, in 10,000 piece quantities ranges from $2.75 (USD) to $3.25 (USD) suggested resale.
