Texas Instruments Qualifies MSP430 for Automotive

Texas Instruments has announced today that their 16-bit low power MSP430 microcontroller is available in automotive semiconductor quality, and is now AEC-Q100 certified.

Automotive grade MSP430 microcontrollers are available with the following features:

  • 16-bit RISC MSP430 Core
  • 16MHz clock speed
  • up to 105 degrees Celsius for Grade 2 and Grade 3
  • 400nA standby power
  • Less than 1uSec wakeup from standby
  • LIN software drivers
  • $0.30 each @ 50Ku
  • Texas Instruments proprietary low power process

The Texas Instruments MSP430 one of the most popular 16-bit microcontrollers available. It is also one of the most popular microcontroller architectures of all time and shows consistent sales growth every year.

While the MSP430 can be found in many aftermarket automotive products, this is the first time it has been qualified for the highly competitive OEM Automotive microcontroller market.
