IAR Systems announced today extended support for Texas Instruments' MSP430 family of microcontrollers. The two new products-IAR visualSTATE for MSP430 and version 2.10A of IAR Embedded Workbench for MSP430 - constitute a unique set of development tools, aimed at professional users with high demands on quality and reliability. Together they bring users through the entire development process, from the design phase to real-time debugging.
visualSTATE is new for the TI MSP430
IAR visualSTATE for MSP430 is a suite of fully integrated tools for the earlier phases of the embedded software development process. It includes:
- a UML-compliant graphical design environment
- verification and validation tools
- code generator
The graphical design tool represents complex systems with UML-based state charts, which is suitable for any real-time systems with many concurrent and interrelated processes or execution threads.
IAR visualSTATE for MSP430 produces a visual model of the system design and detects any inconsistencies or inadequacies while they are still relatively inexpensive to correct.
"The use of state-chart diagrams is exceptionally beneficial for control logic- oriented applications such as metering, monitoring and control applications where reliability, size and deterministic execution are the main criteria. Combining this with the MSP430 features makes IAR visualSTATE the ideal design tool for all MSP430 projects" says Michael Nørup, IAR visualSTATE Business Unit Manager.
Upgrades to the IAR MSP430 Toolchain
Among its many new and improved features are improved C and optional Embedded C++ compilers, and a project manager. All available MSP430 derivatives are supported. The toolchain is compatible with TI's JTAG Flash Emulation Tool.
"Recent benchmarks and field tests have shown how powerful this new version of IAR Embedded Workbench for MSP430 is, and it is really a pleasure to offer it to even the most demanding embedded developers. This new suite of development tools for MSP430 will definitely help our customers create better and safer embedded designs-in less time" says Mats Ullström, IAR Embedded Workbench Business Unit Manager, IAR Systems.
About IAR Systems
IAR Systems is the leading supplier of software development tools for embedded microcontrollers (VDC Survey, September 2002). Since the company was founded in 1983, IAR has worked in close cooperation with the world's major chip manufacturers to develop a wide range of programming tools supporting a large number of chip architectures. The tools today consist of efficient C and EC++ compilers in the IAR Embedded Workbench™ development environment, the device driver wizard IAR MakeApp™ for graphical configuration and initialization of the chip and creation of complete device drivers, and the IAR visualSTATE® graphic programming tool with a patented technology to generate validated and small production-ready code. IAR Systems also provides solutions for Bluetooth™ protocol stacks and applications, from development of Bluetooth devices to qualification, using IAR PreQual™. IAR Design Services injects engineering expertise and experience into embedded system projects. It contributes to IAR's mission to reduce the development time for embedded systems and accelerate time-to-market. IAR Systems has offices in the US, UK, Japan, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden.
