STMicroelectronics STM32F0 Microcontrollers with Cortex-M0 Core
Feb 29, 2012 - 3:01:00 PM
STMicroelectronics has introduced the STMicroelectronics STM32F0, a new family of microcontrollers based on the ARM Cortex-M0 core. The new STM32F0 family runs at 48MHz.
STMicroelectronics STM32F0 Features
- Cortex-M0 core @ 48MHz
- Single Supply: 1.8V to 3.6V Vcc
- 5µA Stop mode
- 2µA Standby mode
- 430nA Vbat mode with only RTC running and 20 RAM registers kept alive
- Up to 64 KBytes Flash
- Up to 8 KBytes RAM
- Hardware RAM Parity check
- CRC module
- Two Watchdog Timers (for Class B certification)
One watchdog timer uses the low-speed internal clock and triggers if the main oscillator fails - Calendar RTC
- One 32-bit Timer
- Up to six 16-bit Timers
- 16-bit 3-phase Motor Control Timer
- Five channel DMA
- 12-bit ADC ±2LSB
- 12-bit DAC
- Two comparators
- I2C/SPI @ 1Mbps
- HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (CEC)
The STM32F0 series integrates hardware support for the HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) interface. This protocol is used in home multimedia devices and allows connections based on the latest industry-standard protocols while leaving the microcontroller's CPU, memory and peripherals free to perform other tasks. The CEC kernel can be independently clocked by a low-speed 32kHz external clock or internal 8MHz clock.
STMicroelectronics STM32F0 Performance
The 48MHz STM32F0 is rated at 38DMIPS and 68 CoreMark. Interrupts on the Cortex-M0 require 12 cycles. All peripherals are compatible with existing STM32 devices and all STM32 devices are pin-compatible.
ST is targeting the STM32F0 at the low-power, low-performance, interrupt conscious 8-bit and 16-bit microcontroller market.
STM32F0 Price and Availability
From ST: "STM32 F0 microcontrollers are sampling now at the resale price of $0.95 for quantities of 1000 pieces to lead customers. Full production is scheduled for the beginning of Q2 2012, and the devices will be available in 32-pin UFQFPN32, 48-pin LQFP48 and 64-pin LQFP64 package options with 20-pin and 100-pin extensions soon to follow."
***UPDATE MAY 9 2012: STMicroelectronics announces the STM32F0 is now in volume production.
